Stories from Mango Island

Why Guimaras Is Called the Mango Island of the Philippines

A small island off Iloilo with an outsized reputation: orchards to the shore, and fruit that needs no introduction.

An island built around one fruit

Guimaras is a small island province in Western Visayas, a short boat ride from Iloilo City. Ask anyone in the Philippines what grows there and the answer comes back instantly: mangoes. The island is so bound up with the fruit that it's widely known as the Mango Island — and to many, the mango capital of the Philippines.

Mango orchards run down to the shore, and fruit is picked and sold within sight of the trees. It is an island small enough to walk the orchards, and famous enough that its mango needs no introduction.

What that means for a hot sauce

We make the original Guimaras mango hot sauce here because the mango is the point. Ripe mango comes first in the bottle; the heat follows it. The result is a sauce that tastes like the island — tangy, sweet, bright, and warmly hot rather than aggressive.

Made with mango. Made in the Philippines. Those two lines are on the label because they are the whole idea.

More than sauce

The same island fruit fills our mango treats — mango candy bars in six flavours, each with a centre that is about 95% mango, and dark chocolate mango bites wrapped in Filipino chocolate.
